How Does The Fractional Laser Work?
The Fractional laser system, delivers light in an array of high precision microbeams. These microbeams create narrow, deep columns of tissue coagulation that penetrate through the epidermis and into the dermis, while sparing the tissue surrounding the columns from damage. These microbeams cause a change in your collagen and elastin below the surface of the skin, which will gradually improve the skin’s appearance, giving it a smoother and more even skin tone for a more youthful look.
This resurfacing process has virtually no down time, unlike other laser skin resurfacing procedures that remove the dermis and cause red and raw skin.
Treats Multiple Conditions:
The Fractional laser uses microbeams of light to clear:
- Fine Lines and wrinkles
- Acne Scarring
- Surgical Scarring
- Melasma
How Does Pulsed Light Work?
A photofacial treatment uses specialized hand pieces, which filter light from different parts of the spectrum. Each band of the spectrum has a wavelength that is ideal for different treatments, such as sun / age spot removal and vessel clearance.
RejuveLux photofacial hand pieces emit pulses of light into the age spot and surrounding skin. During this photofacial procedure, the light is absorbed by the blood in visible vessels and by the pigment in age spots.
The photofacial light that hits the age spot is then converted into heat. The heat dissolves the cells that create the pigment in the age spot, and it shrinks the vessels.
Treat Multiple Conditions:
The RejuveLux Process uses pulses of concentrated light to clear:
- Sun Damage: Wide areas of pigmentation on the face, chest, back, and arms.
- Sunspots: Individual pigmented lesions, also known as age spots.
- Rosacea: General inflammation of the cheeks and face.
- Spider Veins: Individual vessels, which can be red, blue, or purple in color.
What Causes Acne?
Acne occurs when the pores become clogged with dead skin cells and sebum.
This provides an ideal medium for bacteria to multiply – causing pimples and inflammation. Acne generally begins in puberty but can last well into adulthood.
Pulsed Light: How Does It Work?
Pulses of filtered light are directed into the skin, where they destroy bacteria to clear current acne breakouts. The light pulses also slow down the production of sebum, which can get clogged in the pores.
This prevents future acne breakouts. Pulsed light systems are similar to lasers but have a larger light beam than most lasers for wider coverage and faster, more comfortable treatment.
How Does Pulse Light Laser Hair Removal Work?
IPL hair removal emits pulses of light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat.
The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair. This procedure allows for a more comfortable treatment than most.
What Body Areas Can I Get Treated?
Any area except around the eye can be treated. The upper lip, face, neck, underarms, bikini, legs, chest, and back can all be treated.
At the Southwest Vein & Laser Institute, we strive to provide our clients with the most effective and comfortable treatment, whether it’s skin tightening or reducing an unsightly age spot.
Our fractional skin resurfacing, for example, is much more gentle to the patient’s skin than typical laser skin resurfacing techniques. However, it produces the same level of tightening / wrinkle reduction that traditional laser resurfacing does.
This procedure is effective in reducing wrinkles, providing you with visible skin tightening that looks both natural and graceful.
In addition to providing skin tightening, we can help reduce the pigment color of your age spots through our photofacial RejuveLux treatment. Like all of our procedures, this one provides you with noticeable results and helps you look and feel your best.

What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a progressive, non-surgical, exfoliating treatment that propels aluminum oxide crystals onto the surface of the skin for a gentle epidermal abrasion that reveals newer, healthier, and younger skin.
How does it work?
Microdermabrasion works in two ways:
Correction: The speed of the crystal flow causes an abrasive action that gently removes the surface layers of the skin, accelerating the cellular turnover process. This process gradually resurfaces the skin, bringing you closer to healthier, younger-looking skin.
Stimulation: The vacuum action helps to stimulate circulation, increase the blood supply that provides nutrients needed for skin regeneration. It also stimulates formation of new collagen and elastin to improve skin tone, texture and elasticity.
What is the treatment like?
The treatment is performed with little discomfort, although it may sting a little around the eye area. Patients have attributed the sensations of a treatment to light sunburn. After treatment, your skin will feel vibrant and healthy, and you will notice an immediate difference in your softer, smoother skin. You can resume normal activities almost immediately. Microdermabrasion can be done during lunch hour.
How does Skin Tightening Work?
If you are looking for a procedure for face tightening, neck tightening or tummy tightening in AZ, Southwest Vein & Laser Institute is your answer. Our experienced skin care professionals specialize in AZ skin tightening. See below how effective facial tightening was for one of our patients.
LuxDeepIR Fractional™ infrared treatment delivers columns of infrared light, combined with aggressive cooling, to generate islands of coagulated tissue, beginning at 1mm into the dermis (thus preserving the epidermis and upper dermis), and extending as far as 4 mm into the dermis and fat layer. These islands of coagulated tissue contract and form more collagen as they heal, resulting in overall skin tightening.
What makes these treatments different than others?
Rather than using one large beam to deliver infrared light into the skin, the IR uses the “Fractional” approach by delivering an array of small beams. Each beam creates a heated column in the dermis, which is surrounded by unaffected areas, thus stimulating quicker collagen remodeling and faster healing.
Are these treatments safe? Are they painful?
The LuxDeepIR Fractional™ method is much safer and more comfortable than the bulk heating approach of many other systems because it leaves so much of the skin unaffected by the light pulses.
The LuxDeepIR™ also uses 3-stag Cooling. It cools the skin before, during, and after each light pulse, so you feel little discomfort during treatment.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgical aesthetic procedure that temporarily reduces the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines in the brow area. People from ages 18-65 receive the best benefits from the treatment, and the results can last as long as 4 months. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The treatment is one of the few of its kind approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
The actual BOTOX® treatment usually only takes 10 minutes, and there is no recovery time needed afterwards. The doctor first determines where the injections are most needed and then administers a series of tiny injections into the area. Most people see results within the first few days.
Juvéderm™ is an injectable gel dermal filler that restores your skin’s volume and minimizes smile lines and other wrinkles around the mouth and nose area. It consists of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance already in the skin, and it is FDA-approved for all skin types.
During the procedure, Juvéderm™ is injected into the mid to deep dermis layers. Like BOTOX Cosmetic, Juvéderm™ treatments don’t take very long – about 15 minutes. Results can be seen immediately, and there is minimal recovery / downtime. Juvéderm™ is a smart option for a quick, aesthetic treatment. It’s a safe, non-surgical procedure that brings effective results for up to 6 months or more.
Lipo-Dissolve is an exciting, new, non-surgical method for spot-fat reduction in areas that remain unaffected by diet and exercise. Offering patients an innovative alternative to lipo-suction, lip-dissolve involves a simple series of injections that convert the fat in a targeted area to a liquid form and cause it to become metabolized and safely excreted by the kidneys.
This treatment can be used on a variety of areas of the body, such as eye pads, love handles, saddlebags, outer thighs, inner thighs, chin and arms. Lipo-Dissolve is an excellent means of contouring the body.
While there is virtually no down time, it is normal for the patient to have minor itching, bruising, swelling, and redness for a few days after treatment. Depending on the patient, soreness may be present for up to 14 days post-treatment. After the swelling subsides, there is a noticeable reduction of localized fat in the treated area. The healthy skin in the treated area actually tightens around the injection site, creating a firmer, more toned appearance without the need for lift or tuck surgery.
Who is a candidate?
Healthy people who are of stable weight, but have unwanted fat deposits.
Patients with a Body Mass Index less than 30
Lipo-Dissolve is not for weight loss. Patients with an elevated BMI are encouraged to follow a regimen of healthy diet and exercise to lose weight before treatment.
Cellulite is the lumpy, bumpy, “orange peel”, or “cottage cheese” appearance of the skin that occurs in approximately 90% of all women. Cellulite appears when fibrous bands resembling “fish net stockings” entrap subcutaneous fat cells. These fibrous bands have been laid down in a haphazard manner causing them to hold down the skin and trap the fat cells. When the fat cells expand against the collagen threads of your fibrous bands, the fat cells bulge, thereby causing the dimpling effect.
The medication collagenase breaks up the fibrous bands in the treated area. This increases fat cell membrane permeability, allowing the fatty tissue to leave the cell. Cellulite can be found in women that are thin or overweight, active or sedentary. One of the major causes of cellulite is thought to be hormonal. There are also secondary causes that can lead to cellulite:
- Poor circulation due to heredity (presence of spider or varicose veins)
- Diet high in fat causes increase of fat cells and therefore an increase in weight. This causes an increase in cell wall pressure.
- Smoking inhibits circulation in arteries and veins, causing a decrease in oxygen. This can lead to an increase of irregular fibrous bands.
